Thermal performance evaluation of hot oils and nanofluids by simulation of an indirect heating plant

This paper aims to analyze the thermal performance of four different heat transfer fluids in a hot oil system located paraffin hydrotreatment and fractionation plant petroleum refinery. The software Petro-SIM? (KBC- -Yokogawa) was employed elaborate steady-state simulations intended compare fluid currently used (eutectic biphenyl diphenyl oxide) three proposed as substitutes: (namely n-C13 +) produced same industrial unit, nanofluid eutectic oxide copper at 6% volume fraction, CuO/polydimethylsiloxane fraction. results showed that + only could replace oxide/biphenyl under analysis since it absorbed duty 13.79 Gcal/h, which exceeded energy 10.57 Gcal/h by operating parameters. Cu/eutectic nanofluids presented lower than needed for operation system, 8.31 8.51 respectively.
